The Monkees - Changes [Super Deluxe]

By the beginning of 1970, The Monkees were almost finished. Peter had left. Mike had left. All that WAS left was the 2 lead singers for their hits, Micky and Davy. This apparently was enough to keep the Monkees’ image alive as a duo.

The subsequent album produced by Jeff Barry is nothing short of mediocre, in comparison with other albums of the music scene that year. Yet despite this, Micky and Davy gave it their all when it came to lead vocals because they cared about giving a good performance. Songs like Do You Feel It Too, Acapulco Sun, Ticket On A Ferry Ride, and It’s Got To Be Love are able to float above the waters of obscurity because no changes would deter the remaining group members.

After this release tanked on the charts, they both went their separate ways. The thought of a reunion was on hiatus for the time being. Since there are super deluxe sets for every other 60s album by this point [save for Pisces at the time of writing this] I’ve taken it upon myself to make a hypothetical Changes super deluxe. This represents everything tangentially related to the album that i’m able to find existing.

-Shake Em Up & Let Em Roll was not originally released as a finished production. Micky has the second vocal overdub in his personal collection.

-the Joey Bishop Show performance is where the Changes album cover comes from.

-The track labelled as 1967 Mono Mix for 99 Pounds on the Headquarters SDE is actually an alternate mix, the real one still hasn’t been reissued.
